Does anyone have any experience good or bad using this type of rear rack on carbon seatstays?
I understand it’s not ideal and there are better products (thru axle mount) for this.
I ask because I already have this rack and I am looking at purchasing a carbon XC Hardtail

You’d be better contacting and asking the manufacturer rather than randos in the web. Considering it’s MTB (so you won’t be always riding asphalts) and carbon, I’d reather sell the rack and go for something axle-mounted.
Alternatively, for light loads with no dropper, I’d consider something attached to the seat tube, but most of such racks is pretty bad.
I have used it on hard conditions with double bags and cradles in my FS mountain bike with no issues. The seat stays are more robust than the one on the pictured gravel bike, of course.
I’ve used that same rack with a carbon hardtail. One three day rough single-track bikepacking trip and 2 shakedown day rides so far. I had about 5kg in the dry bag. Also have the front bar bag holder. I replaced the straps with voile ones, this made attaching stuff much easier.
Seemed great for mtb, maybe overkill for road riding. The beauty is you just need some dry bags, not specialized bikepacking gear that is unusable for other outdoor activities . I already had the drybags from hiking/kayaking. Also this rack only cost me $200CAD.
Their website says it’s safe for carbon frames.
My bike is old and the brake is on top of the seatstay…. however there was still room to mount the rack.
