3 of the 4 most dangerous junctions for cycling in Newham are on TfL Cycleway 2, where the protected cycle track disappears. These junctions provide no protection for people cycling where it’s needed most, and expose both pedestrians and cyclists to unacceptable danger.

TfL have known the junctions are dangerous for over a decade, but still say any substantial fix is at least 18 months away. That is much too long. The junctions have seen dozens of injuries, and in mid-January a man in his 20s was killed when he was hit by a lorry while cycling at Carpenters Road.

Newham Cyclists and our parent charity, the London Cycling Campaign, will be protesting at Stratford High Street on Monday 24th February. Please join us to demand that TfL and Newham Council pull their fingers out, move faster, and save lives on High Street.

  1. The biggest threat to cyclists is the cyclists themselves, no doubt. It's crucial that cyclists have working lights, front & rear. Cyclists can help themselves massively by simply using a lot more common sense. I also realise that the standard of vehicle driving has gone down dramatically over the past 20 years or so. However, as it's almost always the cyclist that's going to get injured, cyclists must use more common sense.

  2. the problem isnt cyclists acting like they pay road tax and demanding they be included in on every crowded, busy city street. its everyone else fault for not rebuilding the entire fucking road network to accomodate an inferior mode of transportation.
