Every once in a while I have to do community presentations for work. Often I can bike to them, and I thought this location was only an hour away, but upon further reflection it is…further. Sigh. I can’t bike there, my day is too full. The weather will be perfect and I will be a crabby patty in a car. Grr….

How much time do you have? How often will you do this journey? For example, this is a long five days a week commute, but a modest day off chill ride in high summer. As you said this is a once in a while in your comment, I think you will enjoy and you should make time for it…stay safe ❤

I’d say an hour is about my limit. I will use commuting by bike as my cardio for the day and I guess I personally would map it out by figuring if the time is more or less than commuting by car and having to go to the gym.
If you don’t care about that though, that’s a couple hours of your life dedicated to traveling to and from somewhere I ultimately don’t want to be lol. 4 hours round trip is like all my leisure time for the day gone and I’m not even being paid!

That would be doable on an ebike.

I do 10.2 for a commute.

I find that no matter what I’ve had for rain gear, I inevitably have something “fail” (read: soak through) at around the 45-50 minute mark. So that’s usually what I set as my uppermost one-way commute time because otherwise rainy days bum me out too much.

I am definitely a max 20 minute commuter.. but that includes a car too. Tbh my commute is less than ten minutes so I don’t even know what I could do anymore haha.
It makes winter biking a no brainer though when it’s this fast.

I’m impressed. I wouldn’t even drive that far!

Too far for me. 4 hours of commuting in a day is not how I would choose to spend my time.

I did a ten mile commute for a while. It was a longer than I would have liked. 3 or 4 miles is the sweet spot. As a one-off occasion you might be able to do 20 miles if your schedule permits.

I’ve got two routes that I can take.
One is faster is half off road on dirt and agricultural land so it’s not always viable in the winter months. This is my go to and takes an hour to do about 22km.
The other is all pavement and goes by the sea. It’s the way that I go when I take my son to kindergarten. He rides slower than I do, so that slows me down, plus at 30km and via a lot more city, it takes about 2.5 hours.
This is all a long way of saying that too long is always going to be relative to your options and conditions.
A 2 hour ride each way is a lot to do daily. If you can do it 2-3 times a week, and sometimes do one direction by public transportation with your bike, then you’ll find the work around to make it viable.

Good luck and enjoy.
