Jeremy Clarkson unleashes his brutally honest thoughts on why modern cars have lost their charm. In just 30 seconds, he tears into the bland designs and tech-driven focus of today’s automotive industry.
Sorry Jeremy but I’ve just got a Vauxhall Mokka E Ultimate in black with all black lights and decals and it knocks my last car out of its socks , a Jaguar XJ Sport v8 in British Racing Green with black sport leather interior . Just no comparison and up to now very cheap to run . I’m saving about £250 a month easy
An old man's rant on how everything goes downhill. It reminds me of a rant I read in 1978, written by Fritz B. Busch, former legend of car journalism. He wrote that all cars started looking alike when headlights were intergrated into the wings (e.g. as it was done when MG moved from the TD to the TF around 1954… and they were among the last to do so). Whatever the times – some old farts will moan. I hope I'll never reach the level of oldfartyness to join them.
That hideous electric truck made by Tesla looks like a bad idea from the 70s as a futuristic car/truck.it's new but already looks dated and ridiculous with only straight lines and angles. What the fuck were they thinking?? I see them all around Chicago and I laugh. You need curves and straight lines for good design.. all that robotic shit with the grill in BMWs and so many Japanese cars that look like transformers just makes no sense .
Agreed. Before 2030 comes i hope to have my top 5 petrol turbo & luxury cars hidden away in my guarage. F** electric cars its old technology and its so inconvenient. Not even thst much better for the environment given the missions the factories pump out building them. Tomato tomatoes ffs.!!!! Hybrid i can live with you save money in traffic but having to plug in your car and wait for it to charge, make sure there is one on route!??? Like come on . And you can not hear the bastards coming which makes them extra dangerous!! Here is a 1500kg vehicle doing 60klm and its pure silent oh thats not dangerous. I hate them just like Jeremy said, he got out at the right time then . Im the same i used to know every car on the road now im not interested plus they are so ugly Wats up with the alloy wheels that look like hub caps & the big stupid vent thats plastic and unnecessary as its not taking in air 🤬🤬🤬🤬😡😡🇮🇪
agree… i've lost my love for motoring!! green eco drive, ulez, taxes, parking., cycle lanes, traffic light manipulation, 20mph limits…nobody chooses to drive anymore it's just a necessity!!
I mean it makes sense like 75% of people who have cars aren’t car people. They’d rather incorporate things they like into their car. If you are a car person you’ll find those cars that are for u
I’m the same tbh, I never watched Top Gear for the specs of the cars, but more of the amazing and funny adventures they brought to our screens over the years
I always felt 80s and 90s cars had more character than today's cars. The interior designs, the colours, there was just something special. They're more refined now, but I feel like I'm trapped in a box when I'm inside most new cars.
Only people who have access to reliable modern cars will say they miss old cars.
Old cars were unreliable. They needed constant tune ups. Carburetors were a pain to tune. Try starting one in the dead cold. Modern automatic transmissions are reliable and get better gas mileage than manuals. No need for a clutch job later on. Take care of a modern automatic (avoid Nissan cvts) and it'll last for the life of the car.
Modern cars are safer. Long ago to be safe you needed to drive a Mercedes S class. My friend's mom in high school was killed in her 1989 Honda Civic in a 40 mph collision. The dash caved in and crushed her chest. Today a modern Honda Civic is very safe. I've seen accidents at 80 mph and everyone in the Honda walks out of the car.
When I was a kid I constantly see people putting themselves in ditches because their polyglass tires had zero traction in the rain. RWD with no traction control and no abs and if the rear fishtails, you're in the ditch.
Today if your car has radar assisted braking, you would have to really go out of your way to rear end the car in front of you.
Sure there will be wannabes who will say, "Just learn to drive." Uh huh, whatever. Give up all of your cars and only have a 1974 Buick for daily driving and let's see how long it takes for you to cry uncle.

He's right. New cars are all shit. And that shit is alot more expensive than the real cars we once had.
Just told my mom this old Volvo in the parking lot is the best…out here they all look the same
Good Lord, he's got fat
Then, cars were designed to stand out. Now? They're designed to assimilate. Sad times for enthusiasts.
imo, being a real car lover is saying that all cars are shit and cannot identify which is which anymore, and its quite true lmao
Agreed.

People giggling like it's not a tragedy

not jeremy 😢
I think he should be more concerned about shedding 90 lbs.
Jeremy is always right.

One could say that the car, as a daily tool, has finally become mature. Function, price and efficiency are now the most important things.
He doesn’t like newer ones because there’s no built in shelves for that enormous gut. 😮
Thank God for mazda
He is going to pop one day
This is what happens when you become old.
