  1. My first road bike was a Giant TCR. Despite a bike fitting, I experienced neck pain, numbness, and discomfort on long rides. Then I switched to a Giant Defy Pro 1 (2023 model), and it’s a dream bike in terms of comfort. Race frames may look better, but my overall quality of riding and results improved significantly due to the excellent fit. At least for me, since I’m not very flexible…

That being said, my dream bike—and hopefully my next one—is the Pinarello X7.

  2. Hi David, nice review. I've been out on the road a bit over the last few weeks again, and have really felt the state of the roads to be an issue and they are in terrible condition. The traffic seems as bad as ever too so I've been taking smaller lanes and some gravel sections, which has been great fun. Making me think a gravel bike is the best choice for me going forward, at least for a big part of the year. I've been tempted by the Fairlight bikes for a while now, but not ridden one. I saw Pashley have a new model, the Roadfinder X, and from the specs that looks like it could be a great choice for me. I'd love your take on that if you have the chance! Cheers.

  3. i bought a Sika, largely based on your glowing reviews previously – looking forward to picking it up in a few weeks! seems like the Fara is due an update soon – its been out a good few years and hasnt changed..

  4. If your looking at titanium take a look at Sonder.
I have their Colibri Ti model and bought an older version frameset for £999.
The new version is £1899 for the frameset but they often have them on offer and their completes are good value as well.
Its fully equipped to take mudguards and has 36mm tyre clearance with a little room to take something bigger!
    Recommended! 👍

  5. I think carbon fiber is oversold. Sure, it's light and stiff and the bikes can be crazy fast, but it's also too breakable. Great if you're racing and your sponsor will front a new frame every year, but if you hit it with something the frame could be destroyed. A steel frame is nearly indestructible, and if it breaks it can normally be rewelded nearly as good as new.
If you're going long distance, a frame that can go the distance under tough conditions isn't necessarily a bad idea.

  6. I still prefer my Indonesian made Polygon Strattos all rounder rather than your usual suspect brands. It can handle comfort, climbs & flats well (depends on your set-ups)…cheap but well made. Also proud being an Indonesian.
