A touring-oriented upgrade of the Corner Bar: added extra grips for a narrower forward hand position. No, this isn’t an aero drop like on road bikes—just regular MTB bar ends. Installed as an experiment, curious to see how they perform on long rides.

What do you think about this mod? Has anyone tried something similar?

P.S. No more posts from me in r/bicycletouring—seems like someone didn’t like them.

  1. I couldn’t get along with my corner bars. If I got them reasonably comfortable in the “drops”, then the flats were absurdly high. And even getting them comfortable I had to use a high rise stem and spacers. Most people don’t ride in the drops all the time but this is the main position in corner bars. But the hoods on the corner bars don’t have a good hand position. They just aren’t great at anything IMO.

I switched to a Velo Orange Granola bar which has similar backsweep (60°-granola vs 65°-corner) but instead of the “drops” being below the stem they are above the stem like most mtb bars. Of course this makes them not a mtb drop bar substitute, but just a highly swept riser bar. Hand position is similar to CB though and more comfortable for full time riding position. There are similar bars out there, I just thought these looked similar in stance and I found a cheap used pair to try. YMMV.
