Hello everyone,

I have noticed some cracks that have formed on the front tyre of my new bike after my first ride on it. They’ve only been ridden for around 45 mins on some dirt and pavement.

It seems like the cracks have formed right under the outer knobs just in this one spot. I’m running ~20psi and the tyre is 2.3 inches.

Is this normal or would it be worth contacting the vendor?

Thanks!

People will correct me if I’m wrong, not completely sure, that tyre looks old, maybe it was sat out (for years) before the guy who sold it to you put it on. That tyre isn’t trashed forever but has maybe 6 months left give or take. Tyres only do this if they are UV damaged or dry rotted.

I think its not normal, this is then an old tire (sitting in not tire-safe conditions for years)
If you take off the tire you can see manufacturing id – you can decode it with a help online
But you should report it and ask for a refund

  3. Assuming you bought from a shop, take it back. They can swap in a new one.

I’d assume dry rot cracking. Definitely does look new, as it still has the little nubs on the center tread.
