Nothing to do, besides treatment for healing as soon as possible.

I broke my fist on December, still on recovering.

    Best recovering for you, champ!

A friend had the same injury in a bad wreck during a bike race. He set up a trainer with zwift and rigged up a sling from the ceiling that went under his armpits to help support his upper body so he could keep his fitness up. Worked pretty well for him, all things considered.

You’re a runner now! Wear good shoes. Go at your “I could do this for hours and hours” pace. Walk when you need to. Start with 20-30 min every other day, ramp up slowly. Have fun, and hopefully you grow to enjoy running in the time it takes you to heal. 🙂

  4. Keep in mind that even when PT clears you it’ll still hurt keeping your weight on the bars. I’ve been there a few times over the past decade–just go for walks, don’t do anything that can risk re-injury, and find some good books to read.

It’s better to be in one piece with training on the bike your only issue when you’re all healed up. Don’t overestimate yourself even though it sucks. Maybe get a gym membership once your PT clears you to build back up. Good luck, it’ll only get better from here.

  5. That’s rough, buddy.

My partner broke his elbow a couple years back. Best advice is to keep your mind occupied, follow doctors orders, and focus on what you *can* do, while you recover enough to do whatever you want.

  6. I broke my olecranon and was back on the trainer at 10 days. Outdoors at 4 weeks. Hurt like hell but it helped immensely with range of motion. Do as much PT as possible.

  7. Yep, what others said. Had knee surgery a year and a bit ago and had no choice but to sit, do PT, and heal. You will be told when you can get back. So not so it earlier.

  8. Upgrade to a mountain bike. I ride sitting up with no hands quiet often. But doesn’t work as well with suspension.

  9. Everything has already been said. Listen to your docs, don’t skip PT/OT…I broke my wrist 10/26/24…broke it before in 2011 and had old hardware. This bike crash and break bent the old hardware so my surgeon (same one from 2011) said he wasn’t sure if he’d be able to remove it until he got in and tried…said it was a really bad break. We’ll, he couldn’t. I had a spanning plate put in on 11/4/24 along with carpal tunnel surgery. Plate only recently came out on 1/27/25 (12 weeks of no wrist motion!). I still have numbness in my index finger and thumb, as the temp plate impacted all of that.

Did PT a couple times a week to get my fingers moving as much as I could with the plate in there. ~3 weeks post plate removal and I’m still very limited in how much I can bend my hand forward/backwards, still can’t do a palm up or flat palm down (with my elbow at my side)…BUT – my OTs are great and there is a lot of improvement in these 3 weeks.

Do your home exercises, and push yourself. The less you work on all of it, the worse outcome you’re going to have.

I’m really hoping I can start the Tuesday night ride when we begin them for the year here in a few weeks. 🤞

    Hope your healing goes well!

  10. I got some resistance bands for whenever I injure myself, you can macguyver those around injuries pretty easily.
