    Another one saved


    Bought this thinking is was a steal for $80 but ended up being a “lipstick on a pig” case
    Brake levers were junk
    Rims were way out of true
    Shifter was seized
    BB had 0 grease
    Headset missing ball bearings
    I believe it’s a 83-84. Has stickers on it from California in 89. How it ended up in Louisiana who knows lol

      You didn’t check that out before you paid for it? That’s kinda basic.
      Sucks that the guy made an appearance of looking like he works on bikes with that photo, with all that wrong, but the out of true wheels is a huge red flag.
      $80 is a little high for that. Even though the tubing is basic at least its at least got a tubing label.
      That bike was during the era right before mountain bikes.

      I have an 80s schwinn (in MA) but it has a couple CA registration stickers similar to yours. Kind of crazy that was a thing.

      Also in Louisiana and own blue Peugeot. Mine came all working and originall then I started riding it and I’ve basically changed out/serviced every part..

      The bike likely belonged to someone that went to college in CA. Requiring bicycle licensing was a local government decision. Cities with big college campuses tended to require it, and campus police tended to enforce it, due to higher rates of bicycle theft. California banned mandatory licensing in 2023, but many colleges still encourage voluntary licensing.

      I lived in a city that had a license requirement, but never licensed a bicycle. I didn’t even know it was required. In the 5 years prior to the city repealing their requirement, around a thousand licenses were issued for a population over one million.
