Since we're talking about prophets i just wanted to mention Benjamín Solari Parravicini, an argentinian painter that's said to predict the future through his paintings, he even included writings on the paintings that are suposedly profetic, so I encourage any spanish speakers that might be interested to google his paintings, alltough the handwriting can be hard to desifer at times.
He died in the 70's so, a lot closer to modern day than other famous profets, and was even dubbed "the argentinian nostradamus".
Another issue with the whole "Simpsons predicted the future" thing is that a lot of what gets shared actually didn't predate current events.
Like, that clip of Trump going down the escalator in the style of The Simpsons wasn't from like an old episode. It's actually from a web short published after Trump announced his presidency.
Intellectual dishonesty from a NAZI?! That's implausible, they are selected for having only the very best phrenologies!!
If I wanted to make up a prediction system I would not name it after fake predictioners, I would call it Cassandra, because either people don't believe it anyway or you can tell them “I told you so“
Wait. So when he said my crypto was gonna hit this year he wasnt sure about it 🙁 damn
Kaz got that DRIP 🤵♂️
If I may, I'd like to offer a bit of advice about prognosticators: when someone tells you they know what "the future" will be, laugh at them. Loudly. And derisively.
Here's why I say that. 20 years ago, I graduated from University of Houston, Clear Lake's Studies of the Future program with a Master of Science degree. I like to say that the first thing they did when we entered the program was issue each of us a crystal ball and a hammer. Our first exercise was to apply said hammer to said crystal ball forcefully enough that we'd break the crystal ball. The point being that we cannot predict "the future", and we can't because there is no THE future: there are lots of futures. As professionals, futurists (or foresight professionals) describe an ever widening cone of possible, plausible and probable futures . . . and the futures cone is a bit different for different groups of people. Within the next ten years, you can make reasonable assertions about futures that look and feel a lot like the present: our presents tend to stabilize our immediate futures. Beyond that, our futures become more malleable: we have more time and more opportunities to change things. Beyond fifty years, there are simply too many variables interacting with one another for us to make any useful assertions about those futures.
And "predictions" are right out. A famous observation from Dr. James Dator that often comes to mind is, "Any presently useful assertion about the future should at first appear ridiculous." That's because our ideas about our futures are usually restricted by what we've learned to think of as plausible, whereas the range of what is possible is, more often than not, far more broad than what we imagine.
So there it is. If you hear mention of Nostradamus and are tempted to tremble in fear or doubt, tremble not because of what people read into his quatrains, but because they believe what they read into those quatrains!
excuse you I came here to learn about Nostradamus not to have my dreams of d'Aubigny get absolutely shattered
Lovely video as always. Tbh, what has given me the most clarity as to What The F*ck Is Going On In The World has been a several-year-long deep dive on world history starting in the mesolithic era or so.
Nostradamus predeicted the world would end in thousands of years from when he wrote the quatrain. First humanity would revert back to living in caves and trees, then a couple thousand years later it wuld end.
And stop lying…..
The only "erasure" of the alphabet people that good people are doing, is keeping them and their sex lives away from children. The only people that actually want all non-straights gone, are a part of the Abrahamic religions, literally keep your sexuality away from children and nobody else cares what you do.
0:14 “some lady named Jeanine” 😂
If you haven't outgrown such thoughts, you're welcome to join in my D&D game and still be a sad Victorian orphan who is secretly a Fairy~
Just wanted to say I’ve been a viewer for a few years now and I absolutely love your videos!
Your videos are incredible thank you for your hard work!
Had no idea how much I would relate to Nostradamus. I hope people start giving as much credence to my pattern observing "prophecies" half a decade into a global pandemic🤣
♥️🥰🔥♥️
I love your channel, you give me a break from the world burning down around us with your storytelling and costumes
Truly, thank you ❤
I stopped caring about anything you had to say once you started that ad read 😂😂
Listen, we love janine
Be a mensch?
Surely anti-intellectualism and suspicion are opposites …
Too full of personal political cheap shots at parties you don't agree with. Keep it on subject. Lost a possible follower. Came for subject matter, not your quips.
I remember watching a History Channel program sometime in the 2000s about Nostradamus, and they went through all these people claiming that Nostradamus had predicted all these things–including 9/11. Then there was someone they interviewed who responded to this with basically, "What were you guys doing on 9/10?"
Glad to see your friendly face in these odd times. Very cool video topic. Keep it up 🫶
How am I a francophone and knew so little about Nostradamus 😭😭 I literally thought he was some christian priest
Only knowing Nostradamus from that queen Mary teen drama made this video eye-opening. While I’d just assumed the whole show’s history was made up from whole cloth, authors have been busy doing that to that poor doctor for centuries!
Quasimodo predicted this
There's the whole thing about history being cyclical, history repeating itself. So if you study history and take note of all the historical events throughout history that are similar, and operate on the assumption that those events are going to happen again, you can copy the pattern of what order those events generally happen, while ignoring any time they happen in a different order or something, and just vaguely describe each event only mentioning the similar/common aspects of them with a general timeline estimated based on time that passed between events throughout history and have a guess that probably isn't too far off, but it's going to be fagur enough that it applies to every time a similar event occurs. So you give a vague description of each event with an educated guess of the year/time frame, and everytime some event is similar to a prediction people fill in the blanks with the differences that occurred in that instance of that repeating historical event, with a year that probably isn't too far off. So it looks like you predicted an event, but only after it happened does it actually seem that way. Of course you can use that to guess a particular similar event is going to happen if you can pinpoint where we are in the cycle, but it's just an educated guess. You study history and follow the pattern. You throw in a mix of less educated and just blind guesses to fill in any blank spaces where this method fails you, and just like in the Simpsons, you are going to be right a certain percentage of the time. It's not close to 100%, but enough of the time for people to see a pattern.
Janine has never let me down on election predictions!
Coming to CBS, Nostradamus P.I.!
Nostradamus was actually hated by his contemporaries. Many people wrote scathing articles published in newspapers all over Europe ridiculing him, and the nobility and celebrities he did reading by mail for. I think this video is missing a lot of information but it was really good still !
if you read enough history it becomes easy to read whatever is presently being written on the wall
I'd like to thank Mr. Nostradamus for being the foundation of the song あかつきや春巻丼(Akatsukiya harumakidon) by Aeru
I realized just now that being a random french person can be aspirational.
I first heard of Nostradamus from Robot Chicken where he had an intern voiced by Kieran Culkin
"It isn't a record of what will be, but a record of what might be. Your future hasn't been written yet, so make it a good one." Doc Brown
This is cool and lots I didn't know. Loved the persceptive! Thanks!
I would really appreciate it if you would learn a bit more about what divination is (at least in a modern sense). I love your content, but you sound so condescending when talking about the practice of divination. We're not all charlatans preying on gullible people for their coin, y'know? There is a wide variety of practices, with different reasons. Whether it be cultural, to predict the future, as a self help tool, or just for funsies. And people's beliefs about what divination can do varies just as much (there are many who take a scientific approach!). It's not a monolith. I think this would be an opportunity to grow. Not saying you need to pick up a tarot deck, not at all. But understanding the why and how might be beneficial.
So… He was an early version of Ancient Aliens?
Let's pretend for a moment that the right wing lunatics are right about prophecy BS(they aren't but let's pretend like they are). If they're right about the prophecies then they're the bad guys in those prophecies. Even when I was a conspiracy nutjob I pointed that out to them and never got a reason why they wanted it.
My boomer dad once called Elon "Nostradumbass." I'm sure that's an old joke, but it made me laugh so hard as a teen.
