That’s a bit high IMO. Most people can’t get used to downtube shifters so you’ll probably want to convert to brifters, which will cost at least $100. It’s a great bike but I wouldn’t pay more than $250 or so.

I would love that bike and it is great, but it was on the low end (SR400) of the product line, with lower end components, and downtube shifters. The saddle is decent. $150 in today’s market, tops.

Yeah I paid 250 for my t800. This is a bit high for the entry level model.

Very high for old aluminum

No, it was not a high end model back in the day. Those dropouts have a reputation of cracking also (perhaps only on MTB).

Prob not for that bike, it is definitely still a fun find though. The saddle also is nice but 400 seems like a little much.

By any standard, that bike is going to be a harsh ride. I distinctly remember riding one once about 30 years ago, because it was that bad, and I doubt that you can fit tires bigger than a 23 to help take the edge off.
Also, that bike was probably $6-700 new, in 1994ish
Personally, I’d look elsewhere.

The used-bike market is softer than Ted Cruz’s spine ATM, so that bike is about $150-$200. The SR400 is the entry level model.

Cracked the rear dropout on my 2.8 many years ago, was replaced under warranty though. I don’t trust those cantilevered dropouts.

That Cannondale is awesome looking! I use to own a R400 with the down tube shifters, Rx100 groupset and it was a fun ride. I think $400 is twice what it should cost but it’s very clean, bright red and you can tell someone took really good care of it. I would say $200-$225 max, but if ur looking for a vintage Cannondale, could you find an better example. *** Like these guys are saying, CHECK those dropouts for cracks.

Great Wall Art for about $150. Those dropouts look dodgy given the age.

Pretty sure this is a repaint that’s decent but done wrong. Pre 1991 Cannondale logo on the top tube with the 92 to 96 head tube logo. The rx100 stuff would’ve been on like a 92 r400, then it just has a random 105 rear derailleur. I wouldn’t pay more than 200 for this

I’m a vintage Cannondale fan, but the price is on the high side… unless you’re dying for that frameset.

Only for nostalgia reasons. That was my first frame, best bike ever.

I know this doesn’t directly address OP’s question, but I must really say that is a gorgeous looking bike.

I paid 160 for the same bike a few years ago

Rode an r400 for years. Loved the speed, hated the ride. No way I’d pay over 250 and even then it would need to be mint. Likely has 8spd 105 or equivalent.

That’s high for a old school bicycle but if you had asked to have brought the price of this bike down a bit then maybe it is a good buy but for $400 I’d look elsewwhere even though this bike is in good shape as we all see it here.

Where else are ya going to find a clean retro bike like that? I’d pay 400 for it but I don’t know much about the market. I want something like this but in a aqua color.

looks great, but not a bike id like ride. Those old canondale are fast but very uncomfortable (aluminum) its a NO for me even at 1/2 that price

Nope should be half that

It’s a good bike, but the cantilever rear stays have always been strange (to me). In today’s market it’s REALLY high for a road bike. Road bikes are undervalued in today’s market.
