Road bike noob here. Came up on a MTB and haven’t ridden much in the last 20 years. I want to get back into biking for exercise and note sure where it’s going to take me from there. Looking for a comfortable bike that I can ride on local roads (some it shitty condition), and may also want to try out gravel and some light trails at some point. Is this bike a good fit? It has 28s on it now and 25s were stock. Thinking 28s are about all it could fit. Planning to take it for a test ride this week. What should I be looking for and how much is this bike worth? Appreciate any advice!

Check the clearances between the tires and fork/stays. If there is more than 4mm of space between the tire and the fork/stays, you can go wider. If it’s 4mm or less, the bike should just run 28’s.

If you can negotiate the price down a bit, that bike would be a good starter bike. And you can make the shifting on that bike really nice by [swapping out those old Tiagra 4700 derailleurs for the latest 105 R7100 derailleurs,](https://v.redd.it/k9xoqycn1b8e1) which are not expensive.
