Hiya. I’m trying to service an old mountain bike which I think has been subjected to some kind of threaded threadless conversion.
Does anyone know anything about this? I want to disassemble it, but there’s a rubber cap on the top of the stem (also diatech) which doesn’t seem to pop out.
Any ideas?

I’ve seen one of these before, https://bankruptbikeparts.co.uk/products/diatech-30mm-headset-25-4mm-1ahead-with-locking-adjuster-clamp-26-4-crown-race?srsltid=AfmBOopjTr7nykjkNjeQ2t4gC7iHY8U7f7rMxCyYcf_lahQ8dwBD-HWf
If you unscrew the stem bolts you should be able to pull it off and it’ll bring the cap with it, then the bit that says diatech unscrews and will let you pull the forks and expose the bearings.
Is it a locking headset, so you can change your stem without messing with the headset?
It’s a bicycle.
Seat clamp used as a spacer for two long a fork stem, I’ve seen all kinds of this crap in bike shops.
I think this was a hack to get around a patent. The clamp squeezes a taper which allows the headset to be tightened, pushing against the clamped stem. Dia Compe’s patent revolved around the star fangled nut in the steerer tube.
