Hi All,
Unboxed my new Aeroad earlier this week and took it out for a shakedown ride tonight. Have a problem where the handlebar is twisting to the right about 5 degrees when riding it.
Brought it home, loosened and retightened the headset screws but it has done it again twice. Loosened and retightened after each time it occurred.
Anyone had this problem? The screws at the back of the handlebar is set off to the right and does not look right I think, anyone have a picture of theirs they can put up?
Thanks

  1. You don’t happen to have a torque wrench? 12nm is quite a number.

And as to why it’s off-center, basically, the screw screws into a plate which presses against the whole assembly to keep it together.

That plate looks like as if it could move, maybe you could try simply moving it to the center.

  2. You just answered your own question – the screw that holds the cockpit together (on the back of the stem) has to be as straight as possible. If you look at the exploded diagram of the front end and see how it works, you will see how that screw needs to be as centered as possible.

Loosen the screw and the top screw. Center the bar/wheel. Tighten the top screw, then tighten the screw in the stem slot according to the torque, while trying to keep it in the center of the slot.

I had the same problem and took my bike to the Canyon’s authorized service center. They took the handlebar apart, applied some carbon paste, and put it back together. It helped, but I had more problems with my bike. Eventually, I sent it back and ordered a new one. So far, so good. In my case, the bottom bolt loosened itself, even though I torqued it to 12 Nm.
