Just got the email on the new Silca "Ultimate" sealant. I'm annoyed because I have so much of the old inferior product that they claimed never had the shortcomings that they are now admitting to. And even more annoyed that I'm sure I'll buy a bottle when it invariably goes on a super secret Silca sale in a month.

Haha, I was going to say, I thought their old stuff was supposed to be so great..
The “old” stuff sucked so bad for me. Utter failure of a product. Completely dried out in less than two weeks and fouled my valves. It should be marketed as “single race day only” formula.
*shrug* I’ve been using Milkit for years and have had 1 puncture that didn’t seal. Bacon strip and I was on my way.
I get it that some people puncture a ton and/or run high pressures in road tires but do you really have lots of punctures that don’t seal? Do you have a reason to buy their new sealant instead of wait a while or try a competitor?
Maybe zero friction and BRR can team up and launch a third website that tests sealants 😉
This explains why the OG stuff was 50% off and then out of stock. I bought a lot of it and so far it’s working fine.
They seemed pretty open about the issues with the last sealant. Recognizing it was higher maintenance since it dried out fast and you can’t inject it through valve stems because it clogs the hole. That’s why they sell the replenish bottles.
Their previous sealant was still by far the best at sealing punctures. The competition wasn’t even close. So I used it for enduro racing or any other time I didn’t want to risk a puncture. Otherwise I swapped in a less maintenance heavy sealant when the Silca ran it’s course.
I’m one of the “racers who always change tires” they talk about in the description who didn’t have a problem pouring it in and stuff. I love the old formulation, but it’s high maintenance and only used for me in advance of races. I have tons of the stuff around, but for regular use and my normal training tires, I use Orange Seal.
They created an improved product that addresses the concerns of their customers. How dare they!
Their original sealant ate thru the rimtape on three sets of Zipp wheels I have. All failed. Two sets failed while in races. I notified them via email and their response was their sealant only works with rimtape made from TPU. Wow…thanks for the heads up. $60 worth of TPU tape and 3 hours later…. Oh, but they offered me a free small bottle of sealant!
What does the email say?
Silca is going silca.
Next on the list, another variant of the super duper secret sauce anti seize grease. That is not the one from the tub you can buy from the industrial supply store.
