How can I get a spare locking crush washer? I couldn’t find it on aliexpress, would LBSs have it? Surprised it’s so hard to find, when it’s relatively common part for bikes.

A new lock ring will come with the washer. They aren’t very expensive and your local bike shop will probably have one.

Shimano does sell these as a spare part, a common one is Y10Z04000 . If you Google your cassette model “cs-xxxx ev pdf” you’ll get a parts diagram and parts number

I doubt you’d have a problem if you installed the lockring without it

On occasion I have put a cassette back on without this “washer”and had zero problem with the running of it.

I usually don’t use any washer because my cassettes came without it. I just add grease to the ratchety teeth and tighten the lockring

I’d 100% check my lbs

You don’t need this thin washer
You’re looking for a lockring spacer, not crush washer. Easy to find – [https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304122813755?itmmeta=01JM0ERWMDPS2S2QKAEP8XXK6J&hash=item46cf21dd3b:g:5qUAAOSwXZlh79NJ](https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304122813755?itmmeta=01JM0ERWMDPS2S2QKAEP8XXK6J&hash=item46cf21dd3b:g:5qUAAOSwXZlh79NJ)
I have several lying around the workshop.
A washer on the lock ring? Since when are they needed?
Never had one or need it
I’ve never used one on the hundreds of bikes I’ve serviced, built, owned, ridden…
Don’t care much about the washer, but don’t tighten at the suggested 40Nm it will not come of that easily without the washer
