Hey folks.
Does this bike make me look dumb. 😂 for lack of better wording, I’m 5.9 and some change. The polygon site has me at a large, however the bike shop employee reckoned maybe a medium, in a siskiu t7. About an inch in height over the recommended size, but I’m an old x country veteran that has decided to join my boy on the more gravitational friendly side of riding and letting the chair lifts do the work a majority of the work.
Are the new trail/enduro bikes usually this compact in the cockpit area? Seat was fully down as the kid rode it too, so perhaps add a longer stem?
The second photo is a Rocky Mountain instinct in a medium which is right where I should be.

A full face helmet should do the job
That looks pretty small to me
That looks small to me. With your seat fully extended (if you have a dropper post) your feet shouldn’t be flat on the ground. Your toes should be just touching
5’9? Medium is your size on most bikes. 5’9.5” medium all day.
Edit: you should not be about to put your feet flat on the growing. If your seat hight is set correctly.
As I understand it your legs shouldn’t make an angle less than 90 degrees. Not sure how much room you have to raise the seat…
Yeah, I should add the seat is down all the way, 😂 I came home and the wife said I look like a clown coming out of a car,
I bought it, it’s being built currently. Brand new sisikiu t7 for $1800 Canadian (1300) is us.
Too small for you.
I should also add, the width of the rider is also a work in progress
I’m 5 foot 9 with a bike shop in the family and the owner of the bike shop (Uncle) insists I should be on a Medium. I felt the medium was too small for me and looked goofy. I bought the large.
11 years in I’m glad I didn’t get the medium. It’s too small for me. Unfortunately 5 foot 9 is right between medium and large and you may be more comfortable on the large like I am.
I’m about to buy another bike, and it’ll also be a large.
Edit: Understand that at 5 foot 9 you could really be on the medium OR large. Most spec’s will put you on a medium. But honestly you can ride either. Do you feel like it’s too small? I know I did.
For reference, my bike is a Scott Scale 930. Hard tail.
I am 1.83m in height and with an athletic build my 2007 Scott full suspension with S frame and 26 inch wheels never felt better so no worries
Real issue is the sandals. Unless they are official five ten sandals then that’s criminal!
This that bike is a small or xs, the bend in the top tube isn’t there in a medium
Sizing will change across companies. While everyone is different, I’d consider following the brands recommendations.
If possible, ride a friend’s same brand bike and see how it feels.
Also curious what size that first one is, it definitely looks too small. Moose out front shoulda told ya. I’m 5′-9″, ride a Santa Cruz Chameleon in medium and could probably do a large, but I like the playfulness. Also ride a Specialized Stumpjumper in medium and it feels great.
I would definitely size up. I’m 5’8” and all mtb have been a medium. That will get old really fast.
5.9 and change here. Mediums always been to small, large always been to big. Trek has a size right in between – medium/large. Fits like a dream.
No I don’t think so. It’s not the bike’s fault.
Definitely go up one size, I seen heavier guys who were 5’8″and were sold on medium frames who later regretted it. As they felt they looked goofy.
If it feels small to you, chances are it’s small. At least that’s what I think.
To me it comes down to reach. I’m 6foot and I like around 460mm. Some brands that’s a medium whereas some it’s a large.
There’s a formula to get you close to what reach you might find most comfortable, but ultimately it’s what ever makes you feel comfortable and confident.
This is not a medium! The curved top tube only comes in size small for RM.
