I’m riding a route very similar to this during the summer, but both loops. You red loop will have more remote areas, but the advantage of the Petit Train du Nord. If you take the blue route, you’ll ride through more towns. You might also want to hit the train trail coming out of Quebec City and take that back to Montreal (assuming a clockwise loop)

I don’t think you can go wrong here. I’ve only done the Montreal to Quebec City route, but im planning on doing Le Petit Train du Nord this year out to Mont Laurier. I might even steal your route here and end in Ottawa after.

The route to Quebec had tons of small towns and neat Casse Croute shops along the way for food. My fondest memories of bike touring are from this stretch. The laurentians will be more uphill if you’re worried about fitness or taking a more leisurely ride. There will definitely be more natural beauty, though.

    Greetings from Toronto 🙂

Can’t speak specifically to the routes, but the blue route passes right by a couple exceptional thermal spas. Bromont (near Granby) hosts the National Cycling Center and there’s a bunch of cycle specific resources in the area.

  4. Red, but I’d take the Prescott Russell trail back from ottawa instead it is way more peaceful

  5. I think this depends entirely on how comfortable you are with being remote. The red loop will take you through the beautiful but somewhat sparsely inhabited Laurentian mountains, while the blue route will have you going through a much flatter (though still pretty!) and well populated region. There are lots of very good bike trails in the Eastern Townships, especially near Granby and Sherbrooke.

I assume you’ve already consulted it but just to be sure, this website is your best resource: [https://www.routeverte.com/en/](https://www.routeverte.com/en/)

  6. The red route seems like much more fun! I have done the blue one. (biked last year till Rimouski). The red one looks interesting enough I might attempt it this summer. I would imagine the red route has much more climbing as well.
