Surly Straggler theft replacement

My bike was stolen last night. I’m devastated. For now, I will be riding my vintage bike, which will be fine for the summer, but I want something beefier as the fall approaches.

I loved everything about the Surly Straggler except the dropouts, so I want thru-axle. They were such a pain in the butt to get right, and it made it so I couldn’t fix a flat alone.

What are some good options these days?

Looking for something similar utilitarian “gravel” bike with drops, big clearance for winter studded tires with fenders, and rack mounting points. Ideally, I want something in a pretty color, but I realize that may be difficult. My Straggler was glitter dreams purple. I would love a pink, purple, green or blue bike.

If they aren’t included, I will add a back rack, fenders, and eventually a dynamo system. I use a flat pedal in the winter, and spd flip-flop pedal for summer.

Experience: 10 year bike commuter
Budget: Under $2,000 would be ideal, but I can be a bit flexible. Would consider second-hand if I can find what I’m looking for
Intention: Commuting, car replacement (I don’t have a car)
Distances: 10 – 15 miles each way, 3 – 5 days a week.
Conditions: Rough city streets, construction zone gravel. Year-round riding, including winter. I don’t do much hill climbing, but I need gears. 1x scares me.
