I was 9 or 10. the year was 2000 I think. My parents decided they hated driving me to friends’ houses. They got me a Trek 4500 mountain bike in red. I put hundreds of miles on that bike until I grew out of it about a decade later and got another Trek.

I had always had bikes and always loved riding them, but it wasn’t until late in high school that I made a new friend who loved bikes. We spent most of our spare time riding and soon later we both learned to drive so our options for riding spots grew. I got a part time job in a bike shop and we went off the rails. That was almost thirty years ago and we are both still smitten (although we ride less than we ever did)

I was 36 when I bought my recumbent. I was a bicycle-enjoyer and a bicycle-admirer before, but this turned me into a cyclist. I enjoy this thing so much, I commute because I like it.

5, had training wheels road it road the block nonstop, and never looked back. It was really the people that did. My bike mom is my mom and my bike dad is my best friend dad. Introduced me to Sheldon Brown.

At 32? I got a CX bike because I just had borrowed my GF e-bike and I was frustrated so many people would pass me.
Then I had to quit smoking.
I used to bike a lot when I was a kid, but like most people I know, going to University made me a PT user, then working made me a car driver.
Therefore I’m proud I can confirm I’ve NEVER drove to work ONCE, and it’s been 8 years.

I’ve been into biking since I got a BMX when I was about 7. Used to ride that bike all over with my friends.

At 26 i decided to turn my lifestyle around and become fit and healthy. I was a fat lad weighing in at 125kg that got out of breath doing the simplest of tasks. So i lost a few kg via a diet and then visited a local bike shop and bought myself a specialized rockhopper. The start was really rough but my fitness inproved quickly and the weight melted away like butter. Now at 85kg and got myself a spefialized diverge and i’m enjoying every single ride, planning the most scenic routes and just having so much fun.

Age 17. Bought a Peugeot pgn10 out of the showroom. My father was so angry when I brought it home. “You’re gonna drive soon, and you’ll never use that bike! Waste of money!!!!”
25 years later…
Me: “Dad, remember when you were so angry when I bought that Peugeot when I was 17?”
Dad: “Yes, did you ever get rid of that thing?”
Me: “I still have it, and still ride it several times a week. Probably 25,000 miles racked up on it”
Dad: “I’d say you got your money’s worth”
I’ve always had bikes since I can remember. Cheap dirt bikes growing up, and then schwinn road bike in my early teens. But that Peugeot was the one that made me really ride, all over the Indiana countryside.

26 I think, 2020. Hadn’t ridden a bike for 14 years and bought a Orbea Carpe 40 second hand for about $250. Rode the hell out of it and learned to fix it my self. Got out of hand really quickly and I now own 4-5 different bikes. Sold the Carpe, which I’m still a bit salty about.

19. Freshman year of college, I bought a steel single speed to replace my Walmart Huffy from high school that kept breaking down on me. All 4 years of college, I rode the heck out of that SS bike while my classmates stood in line for the bus. That started my infatuation with steel frames, wide tires, and reliable components.

It wasn’t the bike. It was my understanding of what biking represented and gave me.
