Hi everyone,

Looking for recommendations for a tail light for urban commuting that's under $75. I'd like one that can be seen well during the day and at night. I also need to be able to mount it on the milk crate that's attached to my back rack. I've been looking at some Knog, Raveman, and Blackburn lights but have read mixed reviews. Also considering the Specialized Flux 250R Tail Light or the Trek R City Rear Bike Light. And if anyone has recommendations for wheel lights, I'd take those too.

Thanks!!

  1. Night Rider has some really good, bright, yet affordable options. Cygolite if you want something sleeker.

  2. Cygolite Hotshot 150 hard-mount style plus the optional rack-mount bracket comes to mind. They’ve got enough power to be daytime-visible.

For a front light, their Metro Plus has a steady-pulse mode that helps stand out in traffic (it has an intermittent flicker) and it doesn’t use the lame rubber-strap mounts, it has a proper bayonette-style mount. I use one of those in the dark months to supplement my dynamo headlight since my commute is arterial traffic and I have to compete with a lot of vehicle lights in the scene.
