Hi, i think I have everything installed correctly, but the cage doesn’t move far enough to even touch the chain. The cable is pulled completely tight when shifted into the lower ring, and clicks up, but barely moves at all. I’ve watched Park Tool and Free to Ride videos but can’t figure out the problem.

Need more information. Likely set screws, after that would be slack in the cable. Is this a new build?

Try giving the cable some slack and then pushing the derailleur away from the frame as you tighten the cable and hex bolt. This should help you get it right enough.

Looking at that tension screw near the cable exit, I’d say it’s a tension problem.
– Shift into the bigger ring.
– look at the derailleur from behind (so from the rear derailleur side). There should be two lines one stays static and the other moves independently on the moving part of the mech. These lines need to be inline.
– To get the lines in line, the little (I believe 2mm) Allen key bolt needs to be tightened.
– Tighten until the lines align, shift down, and back up. Check the lines again. Do this a couple of times to be sure.

Try to switch to the highest gear, and turn the “H” adjustment screw until the derailleur frame moves up. If this doesn’t help, try to turn the barrel adjuster to tighten the cable a bit, after that turn the H adjustment screw to align the derailleur.

Those front derailleurs require a piss load of tension from my experience.
Logical one is, maybe you put the shifter in the second gear but attached the cable to fd in the smaller gear position or not outwards enough. Or you basically didnt pull the cable enough /moved the fd into correct position when attaching the cable.
Stupid one is your spacers for the bb might be on the wrong side so your chainline is f*cked up

I work with these often and they always need more tension than you think (and seems possible)
Edit: link seems to be broken. Just search for FD-7000 dealer manual on si.shimano.com

Have you checked your limit screws on the front derailleur that may be the problem, would consider adjust them to cover the largest chainring, and never worked with Road bikes before mountain bikes yes.

Shimano has great manuals. Adjustment is from page 15. It’s probably quickest to start from zero.
