Hello, I am a freshmen in college and I recently had the thought of buying a bike for multiple reasons and multiple purposes. Here's a little rundown on my situation, any advice would be appreciated! Also, here are two local craigslist listings that I was looking at, and could use some insight whether they would meet the needs that I explained below.

The type of riding that I will be doing: I will be putting most miles on it riding around campus and to parking. But I would like to, as much as time would allow, hit some trails with it (for context, I am at Clemson, and we have a good network of trails in the Clemson Experimental Forest for mountain biking; additionally, I want to also be able to make trips up to the Appalachian Mountains for more mountainous trails).
My budget: In short, I want to spend no more than $250 on a first bike, likely a used one. I know this is pretty low, but I don't plan on investing in a high quality bike until I'm in a better financial position.
My experience: I grew up riding a mountain bike all around town and have some limited experience on mountain biking trails, as well as a little experience with bmx when I was young.
Thanks once gain!

You’ll probably be better served with the Schwinn. Just keep in mind that neither of those are mountain bikes. You can ride some easy trails without breaking anything, but don’t get too adventurous from the get go. The most limiting factors for trail will almost certainly be the brakes and tires.
