A fairly short loop up in the Yorkshire Dales but one that I think gives a fantastic introduction to cycling in this area. Does it showcase the very best Dales cycling? Well, come along for the ride and judge for yourself!
Here’s the route on Komoot if you ever wanted to try it for yourself – https://www.komoot.com/tour/1915139134?share_token=ad3toBzBO4ImWYoWFjNbGeYKf9L4FALR79tVtTXuE31oRlTaaT&ref=wtd
Note: Komoot slightly underestimates elevation – it’s closer to 2,700ft and just over 33 miles, although that might be me cycling past the camera and going back to collect :). Also if you really don’t like busy A-road riding (there’s 3-4 mins riding on the A-65) take the Kingsdale option out of Ingleton (Thornton Lane), which keeps you on the quiet lanes.
What’s your favourite loop in the Dales?
Happy cycling, folks!

great loop I'm gonna give it a go
Thank you for sharing such a lovely video
Beautiful video love the music.
Once again a great video. Thank you.
It's great cycling up at Barbondale never tire from that route…. And a testing climb at Newby Head back up to Ribblehead viaduct 👍
Right side of creepy 😂
Great video, even better surroundings, thanks for sharing you just got yourself another subscriber on the back of it 👍
Can I ask what gears got you up Newby Head? For me it felt like 11-34 was under geared
Nice one Martin. Love cycling in the Dales. Regularly get the train to Ribblehead. Cycled back home from there the other week, inspired by one of your earlier videos. Lots of decent "gravel" paths around there but yours is a great advertisement for anyone thinking about going.
thank you so much for this..i'm an ex-pat, out of norfolk, returning annually if i can.. this ticks a box, especially if there's an option to elomgate it to about 50miles.. i lived in the UK until i was 55, never went to that part of the world (your part), it's on my list of to-do's now.. should be back june/july in '25.. your channel is great, keep pedallin' on the 'cycle we call life
Great route again. Be good if you gave the stats at the end, I know you mentioned the mileage but the climbing stats would be great x000ft especially for us low landers over in the fens 😁
No need for avg speed, it's not a race
That was certainly a nice glimpse of the Dales, it's really inspiring countryside. I can see now why one bike manufacturer named one of their models 'The Dalesman'.
For the last 20 years I've been able to cycle on quiet roads straight from my front door. This is likely to change and I'll be moving into a flat in Southampton and it may mean the end of my cycling days. I just don't think I could cope with the traffic. If the move happens then your videos will be even more welcome.
Thanks again.
Cracking route, great light too. Superb value for 30 miles.
You could cut out the A65 by using the other quieter A-road to Burton then striking up to Ireby.
How about Hawes – Buttertubs – Thwaite – Nateby – Mallerstang – Hawes?
Not better, but equally stunning. It's hard to go wrong in the Dales.
That looks like a great route. Having recently watched your last one about comparing yourself to other cyclists this just reinforces for me that it is about what you get out of it; a good ride, lovely countryside and wildlife and time to think. Thank you for your channel I find it to be a source of both consideration and inspiration👍
Just subbed I like your style no Billy big balls just a great ride
good
Really want to do that.
As a Dalesman, you have done a great job of giving people a taste of what The Yorkshire Dales has to offer. Thanks 🙂
Well done. Great route.I am looking foward to given it a GO. ASAP
Great route and footage 🚲👌
Cheers 👍
