Hello, I have an old MTB that I am restoring and I would like to go from a 7 speed (3×7) to a single 10 speed. As for my rear wheel I would like to know if it’s possible to just replace the freehub with one that fits a 8/9/10 speed cassette? I did a lot of research but I just can’t seem to find information wich freehub would be compatible.

Some extra info:
– 26 inch wheel
– Shimano Freehub FH-RM40 – 7 speed
– groupset: Shimano acera-X

Unless you have a spacer behind the casette, you will have 7 speed specific freehub

You would need a new wheel to have more gears.

Changing the freehub won’t work if the hub itself is designed with offset to accommodate 7s freehub only
