I’ve been in the market for a tandem for a little while and was bestowed with this for free today! i have a fair amount of knowledge about bike repair but i’ve never worked on a tandem before. I was just wondering if anyone else has any experience with something like this and if they have any advice for restoring this baby! thanks!

I have a friend that has 4 of these and loves them. Why anyone needs 4 tandems I don’t know, but I think you got a good one
Lucky bitch.
Jk oc
Yes they’re fuckin sick. Do the wheels have Paul hubs?
LUCKY BASTARD
Ate the stoker’s brakes different? They look short and stubby
Lovely bike, tandems take a lot of stopping so get koopstop salmon pads or similar. I’d be tempted to upgrade to v brakes, especially on the front but I was always bad at setting up cantis.
Looks like it may not have a drag brake which you’ll want if riding somewhere at all hilly. Hopefully the left side of the rear hub is threaded in which case you could fit a karasawa drag brake unless you’re also lucky enough to be given an arai.

Chains stretch faster as their longer, but you prolly won’t be riding it enough to be a huge expense. You have to buy special longer cables for them. Other than that, it’s still just a bike.
That’s a nice tandem.
Lucky you!
Get better brake blocks.
Santana’s are a bit unique among tandems as they have a wider rear dropout spacing than any other bike I’m aware of.
Damn they’re cool
And just for the parts alone damn²
Tandems get your relationship to wherever it’s going faster
Hell yes
I owned one for 20 years
Fine bike very fun
Takes a looong time to stop the thing
Disc brakes are the only way to go with a tandem
Huge difference in the ability to stop!
We had a Ariva from 1993. It had a drum brake on the left side rear hub. Mostly used for long mountain decent in Colorado. I took it off and tried a used Phil wood mechanical brake. I’d consider hydraulic rim brakes today.
We enjoyed the largest tires that would clear the frame.
Ride it awhile before changing anything. Stokers have a unique ride and everyone needs to fit.
Perfect
