Looking for a hybrid/flat bar bike to ride around the neighborhood and on some paved trails. Does this seem like a fair deal? Also is 28 inches and I am 6’1” with 33 in inseam.
Your market may vary, but I’m inclined to say no, it’s on the high end, especially if it needs any work (can’t tell 100% but the chain looks kinda rusty?)
The claim that this cost $1100 is also very likely completely false. Adjusted for inflating that would be $2400 which is unrealistically high, and even if he adjusted for inflation that’s still high considering decent name-brand hybrids nowadays start at around $700.
And this bike was lower end. Only some of the tubes are Chro-moly steel, some are high-tensile. The parts are basically the cheapest parts that’s Shimano had available at the time.
You should be able to find a similar, but higher- end hybrid from that time period for the same price.
