I moved from the mountains to the beach, so I’ve been riding on the front large ring only since October. My chain started jumping off the chainring under load (first noticed it while pedaling off the saddle from a full stop) in the last few of rides so I replaced the chain. It still jumps under load, even while seated. Bike’s at 2900mi and the cassette looks okay. Does chainring need replacing?

  1. Every time I’ve seen these questions, I think to myself: how TF am I supposed to know without seeing the length of 12 links, in millimeters. Yours is the first I can ever diagnose with certainty, without a ruler in the picture: yes that chain ring is worn.

Yeah you rode a worn chain too long and have since forced your chainrings and casettes to adapt to that old chain ring. You will most likely have to replace the cassette at the very least.
