I'm about to receive my pair of Bont Riot MTB, and I recently came across some post in our local community about an issue they had with their pair. Apparently, the part where the cleats are attached got worn out (see attached photos). I really want to try Bont since they have a great fit for Asian feet.
My question is, how does this happen? And how can I prevent it from happening to my pair?

It’s happened with pretty much every pair off bicycle shoes that i’ve owned. MTB, Road, Cross. Carbon, Plastic. Don’t worry about it, the shoes will likely last longer than you think!
its probably from them being left in damp conditions after they get wet…..corrossion is a thing after all.
ID say give them a good tap to remove any excess water and store tham in a warm dry place…iver certainly never had an issue BUT we dont have high humidity issues here in the UK either
Use a [shield washer.](https://a.co/d/3175ShF)
You could try a shoe shield. Crankbrothers makes them, and they may be able to work even if you use different MTB cleats. They do add something like 0.5-1mm of stack height between your shoe and cleat.
