The woods rat run is a bikepacking route (loop) starting and finishing in Lyndhurst, New Forest. It is 160 miles long and is full of challenges. Some tough climbs and technical trails. Lots of single track that in the summer is overgrown with nettles and brambles and in the winter wetter months can be quite the bog fest. This route follows a mixture of trails from bridal ways by-ways forest tracks, and if you follow the official one a couple of footpaths for a short moment. The route will see you explore the New Forest, the Isle of Purbeck and Cranborne chase.

Nice one Josh. Went through Hambledon hill in the spring this year, beautiful but brutal! I think all the slop you encountered would have ended me π Looks like a cool route though
little adventureππ sure it can't be that bad
160 milesππ
that was some slog in sections Josh, fair play being out when storm Darragh hit …brutal conditions but some how you kept smiling on that adventure! well done, character building stuff!!
Enjoy your videos Josh. Keep it going π
Yay return of the Ginsters ππ₯§ Well done =)
Did you get your storms wrong, Storm Darragh is only just passing today (Dec 8th). If not, you sure can edit videos fast π³
Fantastic video, I recognise quite a bit of your route having ride some if it myself. Brilliant π
Well done Josh what a mud fest lol you never do it easy mate. Atb Coops ππ»π΄ ps great to see return of the Ginsters ππ»
OMG modern novelty freewheels are annoying AF π΅…. I'm climbing the walls just listening to a few seconds. I can't imagine pushing a bike next to that racket all day π€….on top of the slopπ…not that I'm laughing from up here in the clay ridden winter Chilterns ππͺπ
Excellent video josh all that mud must have been so hard going you always have great music with your videos look forward to your next adventure
β€ it thanks βΊοΈ
To be honest, that constant mud for mile after mile would not be my idea of fun. But Josh is clearly made of sterner stuff!
Thanks Josh
Always enjoy your videos and admire your tenacity during the winter months. I ride all year round but nothing close to the challenges you undertake. Full respect.
Kudos for keeping at it; tough old slog in this weather but all βcharacter buildingβ.
Trying to work out what unfortunately boggy route you took across the forest – Downton to Lyndhurst should be easy and getting back to Bournemouth a breeze (assuming Brockenhurst and the rail line then NCN2 south from Holmsley?)
Hello from Ireland you are a great cycling man great videos keep the good work up.
Lovely video from my home areaπ
Thanks Josh another great video I hope santa brings you something nice .
The return of The Mighty Ginsters. Good on ya Josh…
That's a pretty quick turn around. Though I was expecting your Storm Darragh outing to be in West Wales. When you said the Storm was named I was thinking it was going to be Bert or what ever the one which started with a C was called
Did this back in October, trails were horrendous then, i can only imagine how bad they are now. Well done it is a top effort especially in those conditions
I decided I wanted to go with my dad on this route and saw you posted this video 2 hours prior, good timing! I've watched many of your other videos and wanted to ask how you normally find getting the train with your bike? I've only really ridden routes from home as I've read it can be a nightmare getting your bike on the train.
Thanks for fulfilling my ginster's request π
Anyone else recognise this route from Brother in the Wild?
Good stuff josh!
Glad you were in the new forest, iam opposite lymington on the island, you just showed what the trails are like for me,as i will be over there in a few days for the day π€
UK gravel at its 'best'! π€£
A very nice βLittleβ adventure β€ very entertaining π it made my evening, thank you, for taking us with you π΄ββοΈπ§οΈ
Great video! Some sweet "flow trails" there… I mean when the trail is literally flowing because it's a liquid. Yes overgrown in summer and lots of nettles and things. Spring the best time for off-roading i think!
You are a brave man. Last weekend was probably the worst weekend of weather here in the UK this year. Turns out you were lucky enough for the actual riding during the daytime, so fair play.
Good effort Josh, well done! From watching this I have just learnt a new word for mud, 'slodge'.
Love your bike ride videos mate, keep upthe goodworkπ
that view at 8:57 ….so cool
Have you done the Saxon Shore ?
Type 2 fun at it's best.
Did this is July, was bone dry and 25 degrees can honestly say it was the best 3 days cycling Iβve had! Nettles were brutal tho long sleeves advisable!
