I just bought my first indoor trainer, a used wahoo kickr core, and want to make sure I get all the correct parts to set it up for my gravel bike (the only bike I own). Is there anything I'm missing?
Things I need to buy
- Wahoo Kickr Thru Axle Kit (12×142)
- 11 speed 11-42T cassette to match the cassette on my bike. The SRAM webpage for the PG-1130 states "11-42t cassette fits 10 and 11-speed non-XD driver bodies (1.85mm spacer is required for 11-speed drivers)". Will I need to get a spacer for the cassette on the wahoo? This post makes it seem like, yes, I will need a spacer.
- Cheap mat to go under the trainer
Bike – Rocky Mountain Solo 30
- Shifters – SRAM Apex 1 x 11
- Cassette – SRAM PG-1130, 11 Speed, 11-42T
- Hubs – Shimao Tiagra 12×100/12×142 Hubs

12×142 is already included, unless the seller didn’t give it to you.
I use an 11-30 casette with 40T chainring, it’s fine. It doesn’t have to match at all, just needs to be 11 speed.
I didn’t install any spacers.
There are bike trainer mats, they’re thicker than just a yoga mat to withstand the weight.
