The czech jizdný kolo means “riding wheel”. Just as in german. However, kolo has more meanings than just wheel, as it can also mean “cycle”, or “round” (think boxing match rounds, or voting rounds). However, cycle comes from the ancient greek “kukolos” which, in turn, means “circle”.

In Bulgaria we use “kolelo” (wheel) much more than “velosiped”, to the point where you only really see the latter in advertisements or shop names.
