I was recently watching a YT video and the creator said he uses furniture polish to clean/shine up his bikes. Has anyone else tried this? Any negatives here? Would possibly shine and then help prevent dust from sticking as easily?

Watched another YouTuber do the same thing. New to this whole thing, so was trying to watch as many informative videos as I could. After seeing that video, I started researching about it. Seems like most people just preferred a quick rinse and dry.
It works incredibly well. Buy the cheapest “pledge” knockoff – it’s a well known hack in motorcycling. I go through a $3 can a year. Side benefit of your bikes smelling like lemons.
get some maxima SC1 – it works much better and it is meant specifically for bikes and is amazing on suspension. basically new bike in a can. its an aerosol silicone lubricant, and works amazing for dirt release, shine, polish, lubricating parts, cleaning, etc
It’s pretty common, furniture polish has the same ingredients as most polishes and pastes in a lower cost, easier to use form.
Canned polish is little more than a solvent, a wax and a propellant. The propellant pushes the solvent wax emulsion out of the can, The solvent evaporates and allows the wax to harden.
The wax is typically made up of paraffin or silicone. Just don’t spray it on moving parts. If you want to pay more for the name brand bike products, feel free.
