I decided to post in this subreddit because I figured you guys would know the most about this lol. I’m working on a game & I’m designing roads, can anyone tell me if these crosswalks are accurate? I feel like they look a little insane being that long, but I’m not sure 😭 I also don’t plan on adding a traffic light because it technically wouldn’t make sense here, so please don’t suggest that!

  1. i would need a reference point… like a person, a car or a person on bike to tell. but these street ights look tiny in comparison. feels like each direction hast 3-4 lanes.

  2. In real life, a crosswalk on a road that wide would almost always come with a stop light. Or at the very least a pedestrian-activated warning signal.

  3. I can’t remember ever seeing a long marked crosswalk like this, so I looked it up.

In Germany (my home country) this is actually not allowed: a marked crossing may only cross up to a single lane in each direction, never two in the same direction like this. Which I guess is because a car in the slower lane might block the view of a car in the faster lane, making the crossing much more dangerous. This is stated in the Allgemeine Verwaltungsvorschrift zur Straßenverkehrs-Ordnung (general administrative regulation to road traffic regulations) §26 section I.3.

I’m not sure how other countries handle it – there is a good chance however that Germany is the only country having restrictions on the number of lanes a crosswalk is allowed to cross.

  4. It’s a shame that the pedestrians can’t activate  train style crossing gates.

Other options include pedestrian overpasses or underpasses.
