Have replaced the chain and cassette on my mates ebike. Have used exactly the same parts. When in the two or three lowest gears (11spd), the chain catches a bit on the chainring and slips slightly away from the bike before it properly engages.

Is this possibly a symptom of worn chainring? (And obviously new chain not liking it). Just not sure as it’s more of sideways chain movement, and only in the low gears.

  1. A fresh chain slipping on old cogs almost always means the cog was worn out. This is most common on cassettes in the gear you use most, but can happen to chainrings too. These small ebike chainrings take a lot of torque on a relatively low number of teeth, they’re going to have a shorter lifespan than a chainring on a normal bike.
