I got a new bike just last week. I have ridden it a total of 108 km. Today I had bad luck and noticed my rear tyre was deflating when I parked it at home. I found the puncture, a small sharp rock had penetrated the tyre and also inner tube.

Is this damage on the tyre big enough to need a whole new tyre, or can I keep ride it, and just replace the inner tube?

The tyre is a Scwalbe G-one allround.

I am thankful for all help I can get.

  1. That’s absolutely fine to keep riding on.

If you ran tubeless you wouldn’t even have noticed it because the sealant would have fixed it instantly.

  2. In general, it’s the fabric tire casing that matters. If the cut is long and deep enough, it’ll sever enough threads in the casing that the structure is affected. Then it may gape open when you pump it up.

This cut looks much too small to worry about that. Patch the inner tube and go.

As long as the debris that caused the flat is removed you should be good to go. You can patch the tube or replace it with a new one. Probably not necessary for such a small puncture, but you can boot the inside of the tire with duct tape or something similar.
