Hey everyone! I just had the chance to pick up an MB-1 comp at a decent price and I was looking for some suggestions. I have lots of parts I will transfer over from the bike that this will replace. However, it came with the Koski racing fork, so no eyelets/daruma and I will need full fenders because the weather is crummy for a good 5 months of the year. I’d probably like to put a small canti rack on it down the line too. I’m just curious as to how you guys would approach it. My two main ideas atm are:
- Tap a few holes into the fork to accommodate the accessories, maybe with some Whisky fender mounts (trying to keep it minimalistic and clean)
- Have an identical fork made, but with all the mounts

P-clamps from Nitto with a rack from Nitto. They’ll look good and they’ll be a bargain if you’re willing to spend what a new fork would cost. I would definitely not tap holes into a perfectly good fork.
Feels like you chose the two hardest options – why not just buy another 26in fork with eyelets?
Get another fork, don’t ruin this one. Save all the parts you take off too.
Koski fork is the cats meow. Use clamps or trade it with a collector who will appreciate it. Lots of demand for quality rigid 1″ steer era forks.
It’s a MB-1 Comp, not a MB-1 Commute. Get muddy and gritty on this guy and buy something that isn’t a race bike to keep you dry and carry twelve packs.
Could be a good reason to buy one of these cool forks from a fellow xbiking member!

P clamps or King Cage Universal mounts. Canti mount racks work too
Keep the fork if you sell. Stridsland Barnacle is excellent. I sold a 1 inch late last year. If you’re going to mount a rack, I wouldn’t worry as much about aesthetics because the OG race bikes never had racks.
if you are willing to drill and tap your fork i would consider using rivnuts instead. you could even add some brazing and it wouldnt be too different than if it came that way. i am by no means condoning this or implying it is safe but i would do it
and have considered it even. i feel like just tapping the hole alone wont give you enough real surface to tap more than a thread or two.
