Riding singletrack in my little section of the mountains that I’ve taken to calling the “Secret Sierra”, because it’s located in the mountains between the major tourist destinations of Yosemite and Lake Tahoe. Those areas get loads to visitors while my little nook goes relatively unnoticed, yet it’s practically as beautiful with far fewer people.
If you drew a line due East from where some stoned roadies started bolting gears onto their old newsboy bikes to bomb hills around Marin and created mountain biking in the process, and that line led to the closest actual mountains with an alpine zone, that’s where you’ll find me.
These trails are at around 6000ft and normally covered by at least a few feet of snow this time of year, but this year has been anything but normal so far.
