Hello Reddit biking community,
I’ve never seen a bike chain rust like this before. The chain is new (so is the bike), Scandinavian weather (wet, cold), and the chain is lubricated. It started rusting as soon as it got wet outside.
Since then, I’ve wiped it clean, re-lubricated it, and wiped off the excess oil. Now it’s extremely rusty!
Has anyone experienced this? What should I do?

My first thought was spraying some WD-40 on it? However I realize that it’s not necessarily recommended for bike chains.
For me here in Germany its always the salt on the streets, that does that to my chain.
In the winter I use a thicker lubricant, not sure if that really helps. At least it calms my mind that I did something against it 😃
