The derailleur was fitted without a hanger and bent the frame when a stick got caught through the chain and wheel.
Any tips on how to bend the frame back into position. I will need to get an alignment tool to check after bending it’ s in the right place but hopefully not any other specialist equipment! Can I install a hanger now to avoid this happening again? . thanks

Your frame does not have a removable hanger. The derailleur hanger is bent. You need a derailleur hanger alignment tool. It cannot be replaced.
Pliers. Hammer if you feel like it. The hard part is lining it up right.
If you’ve got a wheel to put in there, a shop can bend that back as best they can in about 2 minutes. I wouldnt buy the tool if you only plan on doing this once. If you regularly work on bikes, might be cool to have one.
Most of the tools that you use to *check* alignment are also usable to *repair* alignment. You find the clocking position where the tool is closest to the wheel and pull outward on the end of the tool. Rinse and repeat until the pointer maintains the same distance as far around as the tool will reach.
