Started a project. 1991 Schwinn Sierra.
Shimano BC137 square taper bottom bracket. Sounds like bearings are bone dry. I feel like this should sound smoother. Replacement or can I open it up and regressed? If replacing, what model of BB should I buy? Thanks.

I would remove and inspect. If the races are pitted you can get a replacement cartridge BB for $20 or so
Nothing to regrease here. Get a new BB-UN300 for €12 in the same spindle length, it might last forever or make the same noise next year again.
Pop a new cartridge BB in there and ride in peace.
Fresh grease could help dull the sound but you will probably never be happy with it – as I wouldn’t, cartridge bb is the way to go they are pretty cheap
