If you’re talking about the splits in the chainrings, that is intended design. They are shift ramps which aid when you shift gears.

That chainring needs replacement (would probably replace the other two as well if that middle one has those cracks). Chain too.

Those split sections are, as somebody else said, part of the design of the derailleur system. Back when the bike industry made good stuff cheap.
If it pedals and shifts cleanly after you clean and lube that chain, ride it. If you chasing the chain you’ll probably have to change those chainwheels and rhe cassette in back because they all wear together.

Chain rings look pretty good actually… need a new chain or possibly just some finish line 1-step clean and lube and some elbow grease. How does the rest of the bike look?

The chain ring is a little worn but fine; it’s designed with those cuts and bends to shift better.
The chain should be cleaned and lubed, or replaced. Honestly for the effort of cleaning vs cost to replace, I’d replace.

Don’t worry. That chain will rust through before the chainring snaps.

Some elmer glue stick ought to fix it.
