Director of the Towner Art Gallery in Eastbourne, Joe Hill, gave this talk to members of the Eastbourne Society on Tuesday 14th January at their first meeting of 2025.
Joe paints detail on the legacy of the Turner Prize, which the gallery hosted in 2023 and exhibited into 2024.
And no doubt of interest to many, as leader and champion of the project, he gives clarity and insight into plans for the new Black Robin Farm Project, an over £11 million grant-funded development of a nearby Council-owned farm complex… to be taken from neglect and transformed into a must-visit Art Gallery and Countryside Life and Skills centre.
The Eastbourne Society were very grateful to hear first-hand what the ambitious yet tempered plans are, and for Joe to explain the thinking and the experiences learnt along the process.
Joe also gives us a quick overview of the Towner Art Gallery’s offerings for Spring and Summer 2025.
And the Q + A (Question and Answers) session that followed his presentation also features.

  1. Such a waste of money creating a “cultural centre” at Black Robin farm. It’s not even in the town – any visitors will drive up & drive off…

The Beachy Head centre is having to close due to lack of funding + there’s Birling Gap.

So many other things this cash could be spent on than some liberal arts nonsense
