Bike: State Undefeated Disc Road
Drive Train: State All Road 1x 11 speed 42T)
Cassette – Sunrace 11-28T 11 speed
Brakes: Tektro C550 Flat Mount Disc Brake
Question: I would like to change my groupset to the Sram Rival 1 , they only offer hydraulic brakes can i set up hydraulic brakes to be used mechanically?
i want to use the rival 1 derrailleur , rival 1 50T crankset, and keep my tektro disc brakes ; which levers should I get?
I’m sorry if this is a basic question; I am still learning.

no, hydraulic brakes requires hydraulic levers and hydraulic hoses. it’s a system. There are some brake calipers that use a hydraulic mechanism to actuate the pistons but are operated with a “mechanical” cable cable, but that’s the other way around. there might be some aftermarket kludge solutions that would allow you to use mechanical brakes with hydraulic levers and hoses, but I can’t think of a good reason to do that. if you don’t mind dealing with DOT fluid for brakes instead of a mineral oil system (like Shimano), the SRAM hydro brakes would be an upgrade from the Teko brakes anyway.
I’m not a fan of SRAM anything these days. I’d go for a Shimano drivetrain and brakes instead.
you can also still get mechanical drivetrains with shifters and brakes that work by cable. Look into Microshift’s recent offerings like the Sword shifters.
If your levers are designed for hydraulic disc brakes, then you cannot use mechanical disc brakes with them.
You need to buy the rival 1 levers for mechanical disc brakes, they exist.
Are you asking… If you can use mechanical calipers with hydraulic levers? If so, no. Just replace your calipers.
Or am I misunderstanding what you are asking about?
(You could also find a different groupset that has mechanical brakes and go that way.)
to your question: no, unless you keep your original brake levers.
when you say groupset, you usually are referring to *everything* so drivetrain + brakes.
If you’re only getting derailleurs + crankset and want to keep your mechanical brakes, find a set of SRAM that will be compatible with cables + 11 speed. like Rival or Force 22 shift levers
This is a perfectly reasonable question. The short answer is you might be able to do it. If you are keeping the same number of cogs in the back, you can probably use your old shifters. But, if the mechanical pull of the cable is significantly different for the two derailleurs, you may be out of luck. In that case, you’ll need new brake levers/shifters. You may be able to find shifters that have the correct cable pull and mechanical brake actuation. If not, then new shifters would be required and in that case, you might as well upgrade to hydraulic brakes.
They may only offer hydro brakes but they offer brifters and brake levers for mechanical. You’d use a Rival 1 left and a Rival 22 right.
