I assume you want to use the bike, so no. Not safe at all. If it’s purely for your collection, maybe, but I don’t thing you can weld that material.

It also doesn’t seem that you could safely fabricate anything to salvage them. Magura is one brand you have to be very light on as you tighten them, very easy to brake the levers.

  2. Nope. But at least you learned a valuable lesson! I ordered a set of brakes on Ebay once that upon examination had a crack in the same spot for the same reason.. which was particularly sad because they were sold as new old stock still in the box but someone got their grubbly hands on the bolts and did a bad. In any case, you aren’t the first person to be dumb; sorry for your loss.

Nope, it’s a cast alloy. If it was machined aluminium you could but not in this case mate

Itll probably cost as much as getting a hole new system to have someone weld it. It’s not worth it. Just get some spray paint and paint a new brake setup the color you need.

  5. Welding will also destroy the paint so not much point if matchy-matchy is the desired outcome

Good welders weld cast aluminium all the time. Such as busted engine gearbox cases on motorcycles. You need to find one that can weld that small material without blowing holes in it.

And than refinish the handlebar bore with a die grinder or dremel.

Casting Zinc like toy cars is very hard to weld but cast aluminium is regular work for a competent welder.

But the Magura lever mounts may be Magnesium for lower weight. Can be welded but the metal can catch fire.

Aircraft welders are good at magnesium.

A doubler clamp (hose clamp or similar) could be put around the entire lever base to hold it firmly to the handkebar.

That would get you back on the road if you don’t care about looks.

  7. It’s not going to work but it’s already toast if you know someone who can tig its worth a shot. It needs to be done with the lowest heat possible.

It is possible to weld Aluminum.
    It is not easy.

Most people who have never done it end up melting the Aluminum because it does not change colour as it heats.

    Silver, silver, glob…fuck.

Also welded Aluminum is NOT stronger after being welded like steel. It is weaker.

In the end, I suspect it will be more Squeeze than the juice is worth.

    Good luck.
