39 years later, has anything changed? Probably not so much. Installation of cycle infrastructure is good, but British mentality has failed to match the Dutch and their embrace of the bicycle. In the 50 years since the ‘stop killing the children’ campaign in the Netherlands, the Dutch have integrated cycle infrastructure into their everyday lives. The British have continued to rely on the motor car.
Jesus, the state of the leader of Kensington and Chelsea Council there. Can't have cycle lanes because he's worried about residents and their cars (what do most of them need them for anyway in zone 1-2?).
Driving an articulated truck in London is terrrifying due to the enormous number of idiot cyclists who pass on both sides of the vehicle and entirely ignore road signs and my indicators . I will NEVER drive a large truck or bus into cities in the UK again

Cities like London are a particular problem. Besides narrow roads, people under career pressure to minimise their vehicle journey times in cars, vans & trucks have to factor in all kinds of "road furniture", signage which they need to keep track of to avoid criminalisation/fines/charges, like bus-lane restrictions, no waiting areas, box-junction rules in which they can't inadvertently stop. They might be half-watching their satnav screen. Because traffic's so dense they're focussed on progressing whilst minimising collision with other motorised vehicles causing time & expense lost in insurance claims. So their limited attention spans are spread thinly on avoiding so many pitfalls, & registering a lower-visibility cyclist becomes problematic for some. It's significant that women cyclists are more at risk, being smaller/less visible & tending to stay to the left instead of cycling more assertively. I've done van-driving in London, & spent days cycling around London also
