  1. So what about racing bikes where the rider is going OVER 20MPH? Outlaw them too because they are just as dangerous! I saw a race biker force a bicyclist off out path because he was going over 20mph and all he did was yelled sorry…REALLY! They could have been badly hurt

  2. Certain groups could not police themselves. These lazy law authors are uninformed of the stats autos trucks buses are judged not by capability to go fast but by operation why are bikes segmented by capability. The law assumes random and situational inspection which is always a bad practice of enforcement! Also, It is the association problem where you are assumed to be the same as other pev riders. I respect others and though I can go 50mph I go 10 or less around pedestrians and stop for elderly or small kids to pass. I wave to every biker hold my hands up to receive a wave back. I’m no saint but I look like I’m respectful of others. 1 in 20 bikers sneer at me they are the ones that assume I am an enemy just by virtue of being on a PEV

  3. The real question is whether they will ENFORCE the new law. They're fine just GENERATING these new laws, but when it comes time to dedicate cops to ENFORCING it, that's when they fall flat. I think it makes more sense to enforce speed limits and not worry so much about bike specs. I can buy a bike that fits within the law, then still ride it dangerously; control the behavior, not the inanimate object.

  4. This law is truly laughable, attempting to regulate the speed and power output of e-bikes while cars are permitted to exceed excessive speeds and lead to more fatalities. Could we consider introducing the Japan's "Gentlemens Agreement", which restricts vehicle speeds to 112 MPH and no more than 276 HP? California's approach to this legislation is to abolish alternative transportation in favor of mortorized vehicles.

  5. Yeah they worry about safety but what about fire safety .you guys in California are hypocrites. First fix your water issues so LA won't happen again unless this was planned out by the swamp. Obama and smart meters which should be called DUMB METERS go back to analog and while you are at it get rid of 5 G. I can think of 100 laws that we need but don't have. 73

  6. I get that it's stupid but as a bike commuter myself I'm inclined to agree. This issue of reclassifying what makes what an ebike is valid. In most of europe, you won't get anything that reaches 20 mph because it's dangerous. Legally most of their ebikes are around 16mph top and I believe the majority are pedal assists NOT turn or push throttles. Considering how immature most Americans are because you know due to guns and car accidents-that culture carries over when you're riding at 30mph without license and on a lane or pathway where people are walking or riding a lot slower. I see people riding a zippy ebike ignoring traffic and betting on the goodwill of the drivers and this makes the rest of us look bad. E-scooter riders are just as guilty for doing this.

I ride..17 miles per day round trip through the year. It's only until last year I got an ebike because I started taking a different route that's shorter but there's hills so I needed the extra help. But my bike is a legit pedal assist with no throttle-it depends on how much I pedal and it give me the help. The only way I can get past 20 is if I pedal myself to get there while the assistance is cut off and I this is how an ebike should be. If you want something stronger ride a motorcycle. These brats…motorcycles and ebikes aren't the same. You can't be pushing 30 plus and riding with the rest of us without the responsibility of getting a license and riding with traffic.

  7. to be fair, if they outlawing or banning ebikes. Then they should be refunding the people's money. Come fetch the Ebike and give back the money.

Either by the government or State Municipality. But it must be cold hard cash.

When those ebikes were purchased, there was no law in place to say they were "not legal". So unless they only enforce it on ebikes sold after the "new law". That seems fair.

If someone already owns an ebike that is 1000w an has the ability to go above 28miles per hour and has a throttle. The throttle is not an issue.

Im sure the speed limit by itself should be in place. So if person was cruising, not behaving crazy, didn't go over red stoplines or driving recklessly. Then everyone should be safe and no need to tickets or pulling over. Unless they want to pull you over to find out when you purchased it. (maybe Ebike owners must just keep a digital copy of when they bought it, the receipt or something)

but i guess they going to make it bad for all ebike owners now. Possibly to a point where people just go and buy a big Electric Motorcycle.

  8. alright ! its so comforting to know that our great leaders in sacramento are using our time and money wisely by making new laws and sitting around and smelling their own farts – the most useless people in california only to be out bottomed by the super great CARB

  9. Some of us dont drink or play video games after work man. Some cant afford a car. Some dont have time to ride 2-4 hours in a motorcycle. Ebike is our getaway. Leave us alone
