If a compression plug is supposed to reinforce the steer tube to avoid being crushed by the stem, why is this FSA plug OK in the far right image? Also, the top section doesn’t even contact the inside of the tube (got this plugged with my Look frameset).

Looks like the top of the plug and bottom of the stem lining up may create the possibility of shear on the steering tube.
