I feel like these bikes don’t get enough love. Got this frame for a killer deal of $200 from VeloMine, they still have the extra small 650b frames in stock.
I’ve had this built up a few different ways but it really comes alive with drop bars.
I’ve been doing my best to neglect this bike throughout the winter out of curiosity. I’ve always been pretty crazy about cleaning my bike after most winter rides, so it seemed fun to see what would happen with this relatively budget build.
Also, anyone who owns one, have you found the real max tire and fender size? The website says 41mm max tire size but I’m running 38s with fenders and loads of room. I’ll update this post if/when I find out.

I just finished building up a Privateer after some kind stranger posted here about a somafabshop firesale. I’m loving the look and ride. Hoping to snap some pictures soon to share!
I’ve had a matte black Privateer since 2020. I totally agree that they’re underrated. Started with nitto noodles, now running swept bars with a basket.
I’ve run 700×42 slicks with no issues, and am currently running Continental Contact Urban 700×40 under fenders. I think it’d probably max out at 42 knobbies without fenders.
