(ignore the rust on chain)
I am going to the Philippines in a few weeks. and I've been thinking of upgrading the groupset on my current 2017 canyon neuron al 7. The current system is the old original 2×10 system and i might want to upgrade to a 1x system. I have looked at some groupsets on lazada and might consider something like this (slide 7).
i would like to know if it's possible. And is it worth it? Will it be an improvement? Will it be more reliable? And etc.
My current system is
Shimano Deore XT Shadow, M781 rd
Shimano Deore, M617 fd
Shimano deore m610 shifters
Shimano Deore, M627 22/36 crankset
Shimano pressfit bb
Mavic crossride fts-x wheels serial number (CR72022324)

You can’t go mtb 12-speed unless Canyon makes a new hanger, as your current one uses the direct mount standard.
11-speed rear mechs have a removable link that allows for the direct mount. My bike was converted from 2x to 1×11 at some point. Sure, it’d be nice to have a wider range without a mega jump at the bottom, but it definitely works well.
You ask if the 1×12 system would be more reliable, have you had reliability issues with your current drivetrain? What is it about a 2x setup that you dislike, and what problems are you solving by going 1x?
I’ve been tempted by the 1x trend, but looking into it I’ve found that even the widest range 1×12 systems will never give me the gear range of a 2x or 3x system. And as I’ve never had reliability issues with my front derailleurs I’ve come to the realisation that I’ll be much happier sticking with my 2x and 3x drivetrains.
S is always possible but it involves a lot of costs. First you should see if your bottom bracket can accept a single chainring. Afterwards you have to change the cassette of the sprockets and put a max capacity derailleur plus the cable plus the chain can be there It’s up to you to have a safe journey.
